Barber Shop Rehab (“Chop Up” Continued)

ER Magazine Interview

ER Magazine Interview

2nd Letter
The Barbers in Detroit all have the common Factor; they have all started right at home and the ‘Hood’ respects their skill. I realized that sometimes your environment can trigger greatness, drive and a hunger for exceeding. If you’ve lived in Detroit at any time in your life you have pretty much seen it all when it comes to the Hair trade. Working in Detroit in this industry you will find the competition is stupendous. Most Barbers not only gain the experience they need first hand from their hood, they also tailor a craft that is unremarkably clever and challenging to replicate.
“Dicky V”
Conversing with another talented Barber fresh out of the Henderson, Indiana I had the opportunity to see art at its finest. Dicky V has a customary talent of design and art and is responsible for the my awesome hair cut that my boys absolutely loved when I returned home to Detroit. Dickey V’s barbershop is well known in Indiana for designer exotic cuts. Dicky V is out of a many that focus on design techniques, by far first-rate in my book. He has an eye that is truly a gift.
“Kevin McIntosh”
The vast Majority of barbers have that one learning experience that boosts their confidence and makes them comfortable within their career. Chicago’s own Kevin has unadulterated faith in his career as a barber. Kevin has a desire to widen his territory. He is a man of faith and believes in the uncharted. Quitting is no option and this interview actually motivated me,and may do the same for anyone who has the gratification of watching.

“Jayson ‘Jay’”
Detroit has an immense coherence with the hair trade. You can drive through the 35 sq mile city and the magnitude of salons are monumental. Jay is from Highland Park, Michigan, a 2.97 sq mile city which main streams Detroit.
Jay is a Cultivator and enjoys enlightening observers in Trichology (the science of Hair) Jay is also an entrepreneur who is ambitious about his career. He realized that the sky is the limit for him and his determination being on level ten motivated him to expand to Hotlanta (Atlanta, GA). He is indeed another faithful vigorous Man with an array of approaches at becoming and continually staying Successful. #HP100yrs.
“Boone”
Driven by his own craft; Boone, out of Toledo, Ohio mastered the skill of listening to his clients. And found this to a powerful tool to enhance his skill. Boone has not constituted his own establishment and really has no interest in doing so. Although, he is yet empowered by his own success. Valuing the client’s needs and wants are a valuable tool that keeps him in business and motivated. I think everyone loves a great listener. In my opinion this is a magnificent approach to success.

The Keynote Campaign

http://www.TheKeynoteCampaign.com 16#TheKeynoteMovement-800X800_HB

Are you ready for something different in your list of reality TV options? Yes, much different, like our brand new and the very first inspirational business reality TV Show based on the #1 fear in America?

Imagine a Reality TV show where:
· People don’t cheat to win.
· People don’t fight every five minutes.
· The cast is NOT coached to be negative, ratchet and demeaning.
· Each episode empowers you through entertaining content how you can grow in your life and/or your business regardless of your profession.
Is it even possible? YES, and it’s called THE KEYNOTE!

Convincingly, based on the feedback from all of those surveyed and those who have actually seen a few sneak peeks of this new genre of ‘edutainment,’ we have every reason to believe that you will absolutely love The KEYNOTE.
In fact, the entire Keynote team, director, cast and crew would even go so far as to say that it could very well be “love at first sight.”
Strange as it may sound, the Keynote is an upcoming experience that  many have already fallen madly in love with; not only for its  inspirational, educational and entertaining value but also because of the continuous nuggets of life empowerment coaching  squeezed into  each episode by  none other than, Delatorro L. McNeal, II , MS, CSP, himself.
This young motivator is a seasoned soul, most recently ranked #32 of the Top 60 Best Motivational Speakers in the World, transforming the lives of people from all walks of life for over the past 15 years.
Holding the prestigious CSP designation, which places him in the top 7% of paid professional speakers worldwide,  Delatorro has spoken in 49 of the 50 US states and abroad and has delivered well over 3000 paid presentations to major corporations, professional associations, conventions, pro-sports teams, churches, and leadership conferences. The Keynote_Quote 21_800x800

He has been featured on national and worldwide television networks like FOX, ABC, NBC, BET, TBN, Daystar and Oxygen as well as syndicated radio shows all across America.
After authoring 6 books, over a dozen personal growth and professional development courses and founding The Full Throttle Experience [a 3-Day Annual Leaderpreneurship Conference] he decided to tackle another long term ambition.
When asked what led him to taking on such an enormous task, Delatorro had this to say:12141642_1690172291218663_2613342648592057511_n

“I’ve always had a passion to coach, mentor and develop speakers and authors. I’ve done so for about 10 years now. My greatest dream however, has always been to create and produce a top-quality television program that inspires people to share their stories in a profound and powerful way that inspires others to live their best lives possible. So, 2 years ago, I embarked upon a journey where I shot my own Reality TV Show in my hometown of Tampa, FL. In the middle of the process of conceptualizing the entire project, my mother passed away, and it broke my heart. She had been sick for many years but was very stable until the hospital had to put a trach in her throat. And when she lost her voice, she lost her fight. I was devastated for several months, but I picked myself up continued with my vision of producing THE KEYNOTE. I hired the production crew, built the support team, partnered with my community, recruited the cast, and we made it happen. A few months after that and 15 months following, I began the process of shopping the show to the big networks, in hopes they would pick up the show.  I received rave reviews on the concept, the quality and the direction but most networks thought the show was; too clean, too neat and most importantly too positive.”

I asked Delatorro, to take us behind the scenes and tell us what the essence of The Keynote was all about:

“It was amazing! Nine contestants from all over the US came to spend 5 days and nights in a multi-million dollar MANSION to be personally mentored and coached by yours truly and they all were coming with this one goal in mind…to become The KEYNOTE!
Let me mention also that this mansion was breath taking but to be totally honest, a number of the cast members were giving me a hard time saying that they hardly had time to even enjoy the 10,000+ square foot mansion because over the course of their 5 days, these 9 contestants spent enormous blocks of back to back time learning my insider secrets to speaking, publishing, branding, presentation skills, marketing, product development and many of the things that took me over a decade to learn.
It was high energy, go-go-go from the time they arrived to the time they left and within our time together, not only was their speaking, presentation and business development skills put to the test and pushed to the limits but they were also tasked with impromptu challenges that literally tested their ability to work together and deliver top-notch presentations to extremely diverse audiences.
. It was so inspiring. I get chill bumps just thinking about it. I saw each one of them being transformed to another level of mastery right before my eyes … right then I knew the end result would be nothing less than fabulous. With each day, the tasks got harder and harder and the stakes kept getting higher and higher, and although no contestants got eliminated, their success with each task gave them an opportunity to earn them “The Mic”.
Central to our time together I personally taught the contestants my “12-step blueprint” that I developed over 15 years in the professional speaking industry. Each day the contestants got up to a hearty breakfast prepared by our chef and then bright and early they were given ‘speakertunities’ and challenges to get them one step closer to the ultimate grand prize of landing a 20-minute keynote spot on The Big Stage at my annual Leaderpreneurship Conference, The Full Throttle Experience and the coveted title of…THE KEYNOTE!

There is so much more to share so please be sure to go to our KEY NOTE page listed below but, before I go, as a fellow cast member of season one with a bit of an inside scoop, I’d like to mention that there is still an ongoing argument amidst some of the cast members from both seasons whether Delatorro should even be listed as a cast member!!!

Some are saying that he wasn’t really playing a part at all!

He was just 100%  Delatorro … down to serious business and dishing out speaking tasks and business assignments at the speed of light to cast members who were sleep deprived, nervous and never able to feel amply prepared for what he was going to throw at them next! We’re just saying! We love you Del, you’ve made us all better and thank you for sharing your DREAM with us. May it change the world not just on TV but in real lives everywhere? It has changed ours.

Speaking of dishes, did I mention that each day within the gorgeous Tampa Bay, set of that 10,000+ square foot, 10 bedroom mansion that the cast members were wined and dined with the finest of cuisine created by the culinary skills of  Chef Gaston D. Merideth ?!

Delatorro, my friend, you are alright with me. I don’t care what they say about you.

The Naked Truth

One of ERMAG’s most paramount interviews was with Jackson, Florida’s very own Torie Jones. We were so intrigued about her passion of her body art that we decided to go a little deeper and enlighten everyone else on her true craft. Torie is a renowned Body Art Artist who uses the natural human body in a picturesque way. Using the most intense hues, Torie swings a brush and lands vibrant and vivid results. What is more captivating than the human body in the natural? Body art consist of piercings as well as paint. Between the two, they are both meaningful in many parts of the world in different eras of life. This is indeed broad. After the previous interview ERMAG felt that there was more to be told. We proudly present Torie’s deepest and inner most thoughts of The Naked Truth.

“The Naked Truth”

Toppings of color and design lay just right. The thrill of creating beauty to the senses and knowing it can only happen once this way. That one time encounter between you and me, no matter how many times we meet. I need you nude only to express my true strokes. Originally placed and scripted as it flows from the brush to your skin. This formula can only take place with you in motion to form positions that will be suspended in time.

It’s something eminence about you, now that we represent each other. Maybe it’s the way you have taken on the altered ego that has blended into your persona. Seeing beauty of the Egyptians ancestors transcend out of you and into Goddess status, quickly we fall into scene by scene as the photographer steals you away. Feeling connections that are not really there because as soon as it is washed away, so am I.

This is how body art makes me feel each and every time I am deeply involved. Although it is my responsibility to make sure I am representing your imagery as you dreamed, I find myself, my style forced into letting the art just happen.

Unlike the Egyptian, Roman, Greek and Middle Eastern cultures, this is more for my gratification, than for disguise, religion, or communication. My art comes from my emotions and what customs unconsciously I have been groomed to believe. It goes deeper than paint, deeper than just a one dimensional concept to express on a breathing canvas. As I am always seducing my ideas right into my hands, so it challenges the imperfect, to the perfect lines. Achieving what is almost a guess to me but has been already played out into my universe. The inevitable never missing a beat replaying what I have been exposed to like a movie. The visions become my soundtrack. The various statues, paintings and physical art of different cultures are locked away until it gets its chance to escape through inspirational re inventions of me, my culture, and my views. Art is in everything I cling to as an individual. I see it as my independence. No matter if I’m constrained physically, my mind will never be. One thing for sure, if you can see this with your heart, you will not only feel free but you will always know the Art of

Movie Review: War Room

Maybe you saw it ! You did go to see it didn’t you? Well, you need to! Yes, you owe it to yourself to see the best movie I’ve seen in decades and trust me when I say that I love my movies! Yes, of course, I’m talking about “War Room.” What other movie could I possibly be talking about on this level?

Its time for you to fight THE REAL ENEMY You gotta love it! At least I did but what is all of this “War Room” stuff about anyway? Man, you’re asking all of the great questions! My friend, it is about prayer, open communication between you and the one who made you. No silly, not your parents; God, your creator and sustainer! The War Room is about opening up and keeping clear and free lines of communication between you and Jesus Christ our Lord as your savior and redeemer. It is about having the barracks of your heart and soul in constant connection with headquarters.   from “WAR ROOM” …. My friend, could it be my that the reason that so many of our lives might look like ‘war torn’ battle grounds demolished by enemy tactics is because so very few of us regularly spend time in the ‘War Room?”“What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.” My friend, could it be that prayer, to be brutally honest is not something that most of us really seem to make much time for or tend to practice much in today’s times [unless of course, there is a declared state of national or personal emergency?]Could we be honest about most of our churches? In fact, if you ran a survey throughout most churches today you would discover that the PRAYER SERVICE is the least participated service of the entire church! This fact, just goes to show us how desperately in trouble we are and how much we have fallen. On one occasion, his disciples had seen his own lifestyle, passion and power of his prayers and they asked him to teach them how to pray. Look at Jesus’ personal instruction to them that still serves as a powerful model today:”And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.8“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9In this manner, therefore, pray:       Hallowed be Your name.       Your will be done       11Give us this day our daily bread.         12And forgive us our debts,         As we forgive our debtors.       For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.Text “prayerpower” 40691 Prayer then, is nothing something to just read about or talk about. It’s something to practice on a regular basis.Yes, we need to invite God into our lives through prayer and get his divine intervention employed in our war like scenarios. However, he won’’ come in unless we invite him.“God I cant make it without YOU! I NEED YOU to show up and show out in my life. God, I’m tired and exhausted from doing my thing…..please forgive me, wash me, clean me up, demonstrate your power in my life…. And have your way!”If you would like to join the “Joshua Generation” in our online prayer meetings held on the first three days of every month [1st, 2nd and 3rd] please do the following and we’ll get you the information you need.Text “WarRoom” 40691 There are no numbers missing.”

  • We meet ONLINE for prayer @ 530am central on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of each month.
  • Brother s and sisters, you owe it to yourself to make prayer a very essential part of your lifestyle on both a personal and public level. “War Room” has inspired me to take my own prayer ministry a lot more seriously. I sure hope you go out of your way to watch it and share it with others who may be inspired in this areas as I have been on a personal level.
  • Prayer then, is our invite to God. Prayer is our humble request. It is our saying to him,
  • The movie “War Room” teaches us that whether you are experiencing battle ground fatigue in your marriage, relationships, finances, health or just life in general; the solution is the same; we need to PRAY!
  • Ladies and gentlemen, let’s face it; we can have all of the teaching and instruction in the world about prayer but if we don’t ‘drop down’ on our knees to practice it, it’s all for naught.

  • To Hear A Message About How You Go To Higher Ground By Applying This Prayer Model In Your Own Life:
  • 14“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
  •        13And do not lead us into temptation,         But deliver us from the evil one.
  •        On earth as it is in heaven.
  •        10Your kingdom come.
  •        Our Father in heaven,
  • 6But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
  • MATTHEW 6:5-18
  • Consider this, our Lord Jesus himself, was a man of very passionate prayer wasn’t he? Now, if Jesus prayed as much as he did as ‘the only begotten Son of God,’ then why wouldn’t we?
  • It’s critical that you get this. How could it be that perhaps the most ESSENTIAL ministry in the church is also the most NEGLECTED ministry at the same time?
  • § We’ve ADDED a few PROGRAMS § But we’ve DELETED so much PRAYER!
  • Tragically, this lack of prayer is not just limited to a personal level. We even find a lack of prayer in most congregations. Yes, sadly the very places that should be “houses of prayer” very seldom are.
  • [written by Joseph M. Scriven / composed by Charles Crozat Converse]

  • Personally speaking, here’s what I’ve found to be true about prayer. Prayer is our surest pathway to higher ground. It is our 24-7 hotline to get in touch with headquarters, particularly the commander in chief of all of our human affairs. In my opinion, prayer makes us stand up a little bit taller seeing that we will never be any taller than when we are on our knees in prayer.
  • Its time for you to TAKE OFF THE GLOVES and DO IT.”
  • Its time for you to fight for your marriage
  • “You need to do your fighting in prayer. And you need to kick the real enemy out of your home …. with the word of God!
  • What was my favorite part of the “War Room?” Great question. It’s really hard to say because there were so many great parts but there is this one part when the seasoned, wise prayer warrior and widow, Miss Clara Williams [played by Karen Abercrombie] speaks heart and soul staring into the eyes of Elizabeth Jordan, a discouraged wife, mother and professional realtor who has all but lost faith [played by Priscilla Shirer] and it sort of kind of gave me that feeling that you might have gotten when you first saw “Rocky” running up the endless set of steps right before his big fight!
  • Okay I’ll tell you. There were so many powerful parts in the movie. In fact, the movie as a whole demonstrated the Kendrick’s ‘spiritual giftedness’ in pulling out every emotion there is in a man out of him in public and in the most embarrassing way possible.”
  • This dynamic, classic is the 5th film produced by the Kendrick brothers but their very first project produced through their own Kendrick Brothers Productions.

New Music: “Dream Catcher”

I love interviewing artists that have a passion for their music. I had the pleasure of interviewing this young man that goes by the name J-Bone a.k.a. JusBizness a while ago and decided to follow up with him and listened to his new cd “Dream Catcher” of which can be purchased at cdbaby.com, and to see what he has been doing since we last spoke. He is a veteran hip hop artist and founder of the “Grip Hop” Movement. He has penned a single to reinforce a positive image of black women. J-Bone grew up in a single parent household with a bevy of strong black females. It was the stark contrast to the way black females were portrayed in the hip hop industry that inspired him to release the Black Girl’s Anthem. “I wrote this song because I thought hip hop needed it. Some black women are always called every name but their own. Many of them even find that acceptable. I was raised by a strong black woman and I’m married to one, so yeah, this song is more than just selling records.” J-Bone made a name for himself when he was signed to 212 Records in 2000 and featured in the Source Magazine December 2000 issue. He worked with other esteemed artists such as Kool Kim from the UMCs and producer Nasty Nova. J-Bone also founded the group F.U. (Forever United) and his single, “Same to Me”, was in stores worldwide. Since the early 2000s, J-Bone’s music has headed in a different directions which unknowingly gave birth to his “Grip Hop” Movement. The Grip Hop Movement is exactly what it sounds like; it grips you. In other words, it grabs your attention because it’s not supposed to be like everything else. J-Bone added. J-Bone a.k.a. The Grip Hop Movement has included community mentoring, political involvement and community performances.

SM: I listened to the album “Dream Catcher”. Great job by the way! What has happened since our last interview?

JB: Since our last interview I’ve been very busy at my job and working on completing this album, while supporting my wife with her new commercial cleaning business. I’ve been trying to dedicate more time to my real estate business as well, so I can really build more capital which will help me invest in doing the things I love.SM: What is the premise for the entire album?

JB: The premise for this entire album was to put quality hip-hop music that’s profanity free, but still real enough for everyone to relate to no matter where you’re from. Basically, I wanted to create an album that had a variety of songs that possessed lyrical content from the club tracks to the deep political conscious songs. An all around hip-hop album that was 100% profanity free so that all ages could enjoy the music.

SM:  If you could describe the feeling that you were having while writing and during recording of each song, what would it be?

JB: If I had to describe the way I was feeling while I was writing and recording this album; I would say determined and motivated.

SM: What would be your favorite song thus far?

JB: I have more than one favorite song on the album, but if I had to choose one I would say ‘MY COUNTRY’ because it really touches on the injustices going on in America. I think it’s important for us to know the history of systemic racism and how much it impacts people of color.

SM: Are you currently working on any other projects? Any collaborations?

JB: I took a little break from the studio, due to my busy work schedule and managing our side businesses, but I have recorded a few new tracks which will be on an upcoming EP Hip-hop and R&B album I’m putting together with a producer/ musician I’ve been collaborating with.

SM: Contact info?

JB: You can find my new Cd “Dream Catcher” on cdbaby.com

“Discipline or Disqualification? Discipline is Better!”

I Corinthians 9:24-27 [NKJV] “ Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.   But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”

The thrill of the game, the adrenalin rush, the pulse pounding impact of the watching the last few moments of a close game between rival teams. The spike in blood pressure; the blood curdling and agonizing scream you hear when our team loses …you would think that folk were playing the game themselves.

Yes, SPORTS … if not yourself, the average guy you know loves sports. Get this … with no compensation of any kind and with no physical value being obtained from it whatsoever, most of your friends are hooked on sports like powerful drugs! In fact, depending on the season, may I suggest that some of your friends may even live for the game!

Think of all of the time and money spent on one’s favorite sport and what they will do just to support or connect with their favorite athlete or team. For most of us our connection to sports starts pretty early in life. Whether “pee wee” league or intramural level, many of us tend to take our sports pretty serious.

Gratefully, if you watch them closely, there are so many powerful, life lessons that can be learned from the athlete and regardless of sport, one thing the athlete teaches us is how to utilize discipline in our lives.

See it is the athlete’s daily dose of disciple that keeps him from becoming disqualified. So, with this thought in mind, can we change sports for just a moment?

The sport for now is life and if you don’t mind I need to ask you a few serious questions to see what kind of athlete you really are:

How are you playing your game? Are you even in the game or are you still on the bench? [Out of fellowship]

Are you studied up on your winning plays? [Bible study]

Have you been coming to practice and grinding it out like you are supposed to or have you been taking short cuts? [Sin]

Are you a team player or has it been all about YOU? [Pride]

How’s your diet? Are you eating the right things; body , soul and spirit?[Meditation]

What kind of godliness in your life are you exercising? Have you set proper boundaries to maintain favor with God and man? Are you doing what it takes to earn the respect of your family, friends and those who depend on you? [Real fans]

Do you keep yourself in check with proven, winning strategies or do you let anything go in your life? How do you handle those temptations that run across your mind from time to time? How do you handle your own shadows? Your own past? Your own secrets? Your own skeletons? Your own insecurities? [Humility & Accountability]

See, there’s a lot of stuff that can get you disqualified from the game …. How will you handle those?

Before I go, allow me to offer you this thought; no matter how uncomfortable it may seem, stay with the discipline! Know this; All great athletes do and it will be no different with you. In fact, being disciplined will even be more important for you in life than it will be for your favorite athlete in the game! Make no mistake about it, you will always have the MOST to win or lose and YOU will always be the real star.

So, I say to you, let your light shine bright as it ought to and as long as it has been ordained to by living with discipline that at times may seem painful.

The reality, however is that you can choose discipline or disqualification BUT discipline is BETTER!

Stay in the game CHAMP.

Book Reader’s Spotlight: Angie Christine

Angie Christine was born in Brooklyn New York to the Late Johnny Hitt Jr. and the late Betty Hitt. As a youngster Angie would gather her friends at her house and tell them stories she would make up on her own. She appeared in a commercial for a local record store in Manhattan called Disco Mat back in the late 70’s. As she got older and went to high school she was performing, and writing for her dramatic arts class at Sheepshead Bay highschool in Brooklyn Ny. After college she joined the NYPD police force in Brooklyn and decided to leave New York after 9-11 . Divorced and raising a daughter, Angie moved to Newport News Virginia to start a new life. Angie Chirstine decided to write her first book after the closing of her employment at Circuit City. In 2009, “The Fireman” was released and everyone loved the story. She decided to release another book titled Opposites Attract. In April 2010, she and a friend headed south to Atlanta Georgia to the Monique Show where she presented the actress and talk show host with copies of her books. Monique gave Angie the biggest hug and shedded a tear because of the fact that Angie added her to her dedication page in her second book. Her 3rd book titled “Tantalizing Pleasures” is also a big hit.

“Tantalizing Pleasures” is an erotic story of 2 people who fell in love for the right reasons. Are you ready to be tantalized?  Rebecca was raised in the midwest and decided to move to the Big Apple…..New York City after she graduated from college. Rebecca is a stock broker working at the famous Wall Street stock exchange building. One morning a tall Marine who had come back from Iraq came there to ring the morning bell. He was a hero that saved some of his squad from death. That morning was the best thing that happened to Rebecca and from that day on the rest was nothing but the greatest love affair anyone would die for.

Angie Christine is currently working on her 4th book titled “The Fireman’s Revenge”, which is the sequel to the first book “The Fireman”

SM: Hello, how are you? Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share with our audience.

AC: Thank you so much for having me as a guest.

SM: How would you describe your experience as a writer? You left your career as a Nypd officer to pursue a writing career, how do they compare?

AC: I love every aspect of being an author. Sometimes it can be challenging to convince people to purchase your book when you’re not out there in the social media like Terry McMillan or Steve Harvey or even Steven King. No one would have any 2nd thoughts to purchasing their books because of who they are…….people are starting to get to know Angie Christine little by little now. Once someone let’s me know how great my book was i would tell them to go spread the word. Word of mouth travels faster than mail.

SM: Which book to date would you say is your favorite, and why?

AC: Well first and foremost the Bible is my first love. In fact i still carry the Bible my parents recieved from the church that married them 54 years ago, but my favorite book of what I wrote is Tantalizing Pleasures. This book is my 3rd. The reason why I picked this book is because I see alot of myself in the character name Rebecca in the book.

SM: Have you shared any of your revelations in any of your book? Have any of them been based on a true story?

AC: Well in Tantalizing Pleasures the main character Rebecca fell madly in love with a Sgt. who was a Marine. I once dated a military guy but he was in the Army. I changed the branch because I love Marines….lol.   The story had bits and pieces of the military guy that I dated but I won’t reveal which ones. Tantalizing Pleasures wasn’t based on a true story though.

SM: What was your experience like on the Monique Show?  Is she as down to earth in person as she is on the big screen?

AC: Seeing Monique was a dream come true. I am such a big fan of hers and I think they need to put her show back on television. Alot of people can relate to her. She didn’t grow up rich and she battled a weight problem. The media always thinks skinny is better, but she flipped the script to show the world that she is just as talented as someone who is skinny.

SM: Tell me about your 4th book The Firemans Revenge.

AC: It’s about a guy who is a seeking revenge of his brother’s death. This book is part 2 to the first book I wrote back in 2009 titled; “The Fireman”. Everyone told me that I needed to follow up and do a sequel, so began writing and it was released in June 2015.

SM: Any last remarks?

AC: Yes! To everyone that’s reading this interview right now please follow your dreams. Don’t let anyone discourage you from anything you feel is right. Achieve all you can and don’t settle for less. The most important thing is……ALWAYS KEEP GOD FIRST IN YOUR LIFE AND YOU WILL GO ALL THE WAY.

“A Brother’s Secret” by Author K.L. Davis

After reading the latest book “A Brother’s Secret” by Author K. L. Davis. This book is something that encompasses the reader and paints a vivid picture of some of the issues that go unspoken in some homes. Some people may or may not even understand the dysfunctions that occur. “A Brother’s Secret” sheds some light and offers a feeling of hope for anyone going through similar disparities. I had the pleasure of connecting with her and doing an interview. I am pleased to share the Author K. L. Davis with you.

SM: How are you? Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule. How long have you been writing?

KLD: I’m fine, thank you. I’m blessed and highly favored. I started writing in 1996, but I spent a lot of time researching the process.

SM: You have had some issues with addiction and incarceration and how long did it take to recover? Was it before, during, or after serving in the military? And how did being in the military impact your life?

KLD: I used drugs in the seventies, I had never been incarcerated. My trouble with incarceration didn’t come until after I got out of the military. I served twelve months in Arlington county. The military was the best thing that ever happened to me. I learned discipline, something that I was truly lacking.

SM: Your book “Lost Innocence”, how long did it take you to write it? It hit close to home, how have you used this book or any of your writings to teach the masses?

KLD: I started writing “Lost Innocence” because of a situation I had gone through with a friend. It took me over two years to write this book. There were so many emotions and then the name change. I have spoken at different schools and events to educate the young adults on drug use.

SM: What age groups do you particularly lecture to? In what arenas do you lecture or do motivational speaking?

KLD: Thirteen through eighteen. School settings mostly because I find a lot kids there that really don’t understand. For whatever reason. Sometimes it’s peer pressure or just a class clown. These are the people we need to reach.

SM: What are the issues that you encounter most within your focused groups?

KLD: In each group I try to make sure they understand that I’m not proud of what I did. I don’t want them to be fooled by what I’m saying. A lot of kids think because I write, that I am rich. No. I work a 9-5 so I can have nice things. I let hem know right up front that anything can be obtained through hard work.

SM: I must say, that I had a pleasure of reading your new book “A Brother’s Secret.” What prompted you to write this book?

KLD: I met this family and when I heard their story, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. At night I found myself thinking about their situation. I had too many what if’s. I felt the need to speak out. I was molested at a very young age so I was aware of molestation but not this form. Although this book was based on someone else’s story, I changed some of the things that really took place.

SM: Do you have any other projects coming up?

KLD: I have several things coming up. “Mama Pearl” is coming out soon and also “Separated by Birth.”

SM: How can people contact you?

KLD: Author kldavis on Facebook or you can email me at kldavis821@gmail.com

“A native of Alexandria, VA, author K.L. Davis is an Army Veteran and mother of two. Make no mistake though, life for this dynamic author has been everything but easy. Having experienced her own addiction, incarceration, and recovery, Ms. Davis has lived a life filled with the grit that many urban authors write about in their books. Perhaps this inside out perspective is what fuels her impassioned character development and dramatic plots. It was most certainly the blueprint for her first novel “Lost Innocence” which she wrote in loving memory of her former pupil that died of a drug overdose during treatment. Ms. Davis felt lost herself and turned to writing as an outlet. Selling her novels independently she managed to make a name for herself. Shortly after she established her own publishing company, Parks & Davis Publications. She has subsequently published 4 additional novels including the sequel to her first venture entitled “A Girl Called Nikki”

Now, author K.L. Davis is inspiring young girls not to make the mistakes that she made. She makes it her mission to help them discover their purpose and positive energy and to serve on a higher platform of respect and integrity.”

Barber Shop “Chop up”

11222698_492171877625604_4489880442864566862_nNothing stands out in any community than the famous Red and White Striped pole. Recurrently associated with a blue stripe at times. This could be found twisting next to a small storefront or other places of operation; signifying a place where one could appropriate a haircut, a shave, possibly a manicure and a bit of masculine bonhomie. A wonderful contribution to any neighborhood and even around the world. Barbers are true comrades. One will marvel at their good-naturedness which sends friendliness amongst the world.

I was curious to know if other barbers in different parts of the country were indistinguishable. Excited about the thought; I disembarked the city of Chicago for a class with Dudley’s school of Cosmetology.FB_IMG_1438308786051FB_IMG_1438308798528 This trip was an Honor for me because Dudley’s Products are like the Mercedes Benz of hair products for African American Hair. This class possessed some of Americas Top Barbers from “Hotlanta” to my Hometown in Highland Park, MI. 11209560_492171967625595_302049933858343301_n 11755147_492171934292265_4101304602645663095_n

Meeting many a barber’s in my day and watching them come and go; there is something about a barber that entices me (no pun intended). These men are all driven by something. Me being me, of course I am going to satisfy my curiosity. In the “CHI” I had the Liberty of conversing with some well re-knowned Young Men that “cut up”. You can watch the video here, just click on the link. Enticing Resultz Magazine Live in Chicago

Sitting face to face with them and straight grilling them, I had questions and they had answers. So those of you that visit the barber shop or are even in thought of becoming a Barber, take notes. Because this stuff you simply won’t find in a text book.
