Book Reader’s Spotlight: Angie Christine

Angie Christine was born in Brooklyn New York to the Late Johnny Hitt Jr. and the late Betty Hitt. As a youngster Angie would gather her friends at her house and tell them stories she would make up on her own. She appeared in a commercial for a local record store in Manhattan called Disco Mat back in the late 70’s. As she got older and went to high school she was performing, and writing for her dramatic arts class at Sheepshead Bay highschool in Brooklyn Ny. After college she joined the NYPD police force in Brooklyn and decided to leave New York after 9-11 . Divorced and raising a daughter, Angie moved to Newport News Virginia to start a new life. Angie Chirstine decided to write her first book after the closing of her employment at Circuit City. In 2009, “The Fireman” was released and everyone loved the story. She decided to release another book titled Opposites Attract. In April 2010, she and a friend headed south to Atlanta Georgia to the Monique Show where she presented the actress and talk show host with copies of her books. Monique gave Angie the biggest hug and shedded a tear because of the fact that Angie added her to her dedication page in her second book. Her 3rd book titled “Tantalizing Pleasures” is also a big hit.

“Tantalizing Pleasures” is an erotic story of 2 people who fell in love for the right reasons. Are you ready to be tantalized?  Rebecca was raised in the midwest and decided to move to the Big Apple…..New York City after she graduated from college. Rebecca is a stock broker working at the famous Wall Street stock exchange building. One morning a tall Marine who had come back from Iraq came there to ring the morning bell. He was a hero that saved some of his squad from death. That morning was the best thing that happened to Rebecca and from that day on the rest was nothing but the greatest love affair anyone would die for.

Angie Christine is currently working on her 4th book titled “The Fireman’s Revenge”, which is the sequel to the first book “The Fireman”

SM: Hello, how are you? Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share with our audience.

AC: Thank you so much for having me as a guest.

SM: How would you describe your experience as a writer? You left your career as a Nypd officer to pursue a writing career, how do they compare?

AC: I love every aspect of being an author. Sometimes it can be challenging to convince people to purchase your book when you’re not out there in the social media like Terry McMillan or Steve Harvey or even Steven King. No one would have any 2nd thoughts to purchasing their books because of who they are…….people are starting to get to know Angie Christine little by little now. Once someone let’s me know how great my book was i would tell them to go spread the word. Word of mouth travels faster than mail.

SM: Which book to date would you say is your favorite, and why?

AC: Well first and foremost the Bible is my first love. In fact i still carry the Bible my parents recieved from the church that married them 54 years ago, but my favorite book of what I wrote is Tantalizing Pleasures. This book is my 3rd. The reason why I picked this book is because I see alot of myself in the character name Rebecca in the book.

SM: Have you shared any of your revelations in any of your book? Have any of them been based on a true story?

AC: Well in Tantalizing Pleasures the main character Rebecca fell madly in love with a Sgt. who was a Marine. I once dated a military guy but he was in the Army. I changed the branch because I love Marines….lol.   The story had bits and pieces of the military guy that I dated but I won’t reveal which ones. Tantalizing Pleasures wasn’t based on a true story though.

SM: What was your experience like on the Monique Show?  Is she as down to earth in person as she is on the big screen?

AC: Seeing Monique was a dream come true. I am such a big fan of hers and I think they need to put her show back on television. Alot of people can relate to her. She didn’t grow up rich and she battled a weight problem. The media always thinks skinny is better, but she flipped the script to show the world that she is just as talented as someone who is skinny.

SM: Tell me about your 4th book The Firemans Revenge.

AC: It’s about a guy who is a seeking revenge of his brother’s death. This book is part 2 to the first book I wrote back in 2009 titled; “The Fireman”. Everyone told me that I needed to follow up and do a sequel, so began writing and it was released in June 2015.

SM: Any last remarks?

AC: Yes! To everyone that’s reading this interview right now please follow your dreams. Don’t let anyone discourage you from anything you feel is right. Achieve all you can and don’t settle for less. The most important thing is……ALWAYS KEEP GOD FIRST IN YOUR LIFE AND YOU WILL GO ALL THE WAY.

HIGH FASHION HAIR

What adjectives come to mind when you hear the phrase “High Fashion Hair?”

Innovative, Creative, Big, Artistic, Over the Top, Avant-Garde…?

IMG_0470
I’d say all of them and more, but to get your mind to focus on it, let’s pick Avant-Garde.

Within the culture of “High Fashion Hair”, everything is about innovation and about standing out, being “Unique”! It’s edgy, it’s powerful, and it’s definitely about making a statement. Trends are ever evolving. Within “High Fashion”, it’s all about the creativity of you being that one to create that next-big-thing. Within today’s world, Avant-garde hairstyling and techniques have a wide range. From huge hair shows and competitions in different countries, to practical day to day applications of the ideas. No matter how you like it, it can be seen everywhere.

When it comes to the the more dramatic end of high fashion hair you can now see things like people wearing gray/silver hair; hairstyles so big and intricate, multiple hairs are braided together, rainbow colored tresses, hairstyles standing taller than 3 feet, etcetera.
With trends so creative, what would seem harder to wear? How can we practically apply these techniques day to day to give our look a little extra edge? Try incorporating more braids, by adding a braided headband or wraparound with your ponytails. Defy gravity and add more height and volume to your hairstyles with pompadours and big bouncy curls. Big high buns and ponytails are also making a comeback. Maybe give the weave ponytail another go this fall. Bored? Braid it or add some fun fringe (bangs). Spice it up with some color or try one of the high fashion trends with the gray or multicolored mermaid hair.
The winter is coming and it’s easy to get caught in a slump with the cold weather. Don’t let it defeat you, keep your style and pizazz! IMG_0466

QuickWeaves “Hair Health”

Shanell Monique LogoI can think of many different styles that are hot for the summer. But what’s trending, are the quickweaves. It’s easier, to say the least, to wear a quickweave style. Its customized to your head shape so you don’t have to worry about bulkiness. Face framing and proportion is important because you don’t want the style to look “wiggy”, unless that is the look that you are going for..lol. Who wants to look natural while wearing a weave? (Raises hand). The concept is to look natural. But…..what do we do ladies? We purchase the longest bundle of hair  (22′ and longer), and then pass it on as our own. How many women have you heard that claimed to have had “Indian” in their family? Even though, they are wearing a “Brazilian” classified bundle of hair..lol.  (We will leave that for another topic). The moral of the story, is to keep it naturally believable. Again. Unless that is the look that you are going for..lol.

What about maintenance? Regardless of the length and method of applying the extentions, you would want to make sure that the hair is pre- washed to ensure of getting any harmful and abrasive chemicals cleansed from the hair before applying. This prevents you as the consumer from developing an allergic reaction to the hair itself. You ask, “What if the hair becomes tangled and stringy after washing and drying”? Good question. This helps to determine the quality of the hair, and how it will react once it is applied to your hair. Shameful to have a bad weave and you are looking fly. Cost is a big tell tale sign that the cost of your investment is good or not. Paying $20 for a pack of 24″; “100% Human Hair”, might indicate that you are making a bad investment. Inspect the package and the hair closely to see if indeed it is yakky, or a synthetic or yakky blend. Remember quality vs. quantity. Tieing up the hair at night with a silk or satin scarf helps reduce frizziness, breakage. It also locks in moisture. If you can’t keep a satin scarf or bonnet on your head at night, try satin rollers and/or a satin pillow case. Stay away from Cotton, Polyester, Rayon or Poly blends, these fabrics tend to pull the moisture out of hair and suffocate it, especially if you sweat at night. When sweat mixes with any oils in your hair and scalp and after it dries, tend to crystallize. You wonder why your hair is dry and stiff after a couple of days? This is one of the reasons why, aside from the possibility of spraying too much holding spray or spritz. In general, too much build up decreases the quality of hair. Instead of grease, use a light loose oil on your scalp versus the hair itself. The heat from your scalp helps to distribute the oil through your hair, so use sparingly. We produce our own natural oils anyway through our Sabaceous glands. What really counts is staying hydrated. Drink plenty of water. If you need flavor, try adding fresh sliced lemon, lime, tangerine, etc. These fruit are high in Vitamin C. which helps to naturally flavor your water, and also helps boost your energy and metabolism. It  helps to flush the body and cells of impurities, so it is a natural detox. Good nutrition and metabolism helps to restore the bodies’ cells and helps with digestion process for your brain and body, including your hair. What goes in must come out. Good or bad. Minimize your simple and poly sugar intake such as table sugar, fructose and carbohydrates, this also has adverse affects on your metabolism depending on sugar consumption. And what does that affect? Your hair, skin and nails!

Depending on the method of installation. You want to protect the hair. Especially from the bonding glue. I use a liquid cap or stocking cap, to minimize the amount of glue adhering to the hair itself, then drying the hair totally under hooded dryer. Liquid caps retard the glue and easily washes off with water. Stocking caps with a plastic cap underneath gives you the option of taking the cap off at night and putting back on the next day or just leaving it on. Ultimately it can be used as a customized wig. You also want to look for a fungal free bonding glue, and not keep the hair covered with glue for more than two weeks at a time. Why? Because Bacteria and fungus grows at a rapid rate in dark moist areas, so your head and hair is a definite breeding ground. When you remove hair, be sure not to rip it out. This will cause breakage, and even worse follicle damage. Also causing degenerative growth.

The ultimate question of, “To wear” or “Not to wear” can be summed up by three things. What is the purpose of this style? How long will I wear this style? Does this style compliment me? If you contemplate wearing the style longer, then sew- it, clip it or fuse it.
