Movie Review: War Room

Maybe you saw it ! You did go to see it didn’t you? Well, you need to! Yes, you owe it to yourself to see the best movie I’ve seen in decades and trust me when I say that I love my movies! Yes, of course, I’m talking about “War Room.” What other movie could I possibly be talking about on this level?

  • Provident FilmsWar Room’ is a 2015 American Christiandrama filmdirected by  Alex Kendrickand cowritten and produced by his brother Stephen Kendrick. This film reaffirms the core teaching known by just a handful that prayer needs to be staged and prepared for much like combat does in a military ‘War Room‘ environment where life and death can hang in the balance.Of course, nobody saw me shed a tear [at least not those who weren’t in my row.]”Kendrick brothers, you are wrong for that! Here’s the scene: Its time for you to fight Elizabeth. Its time for you to fight THE REAL ENEMY You gotta love it! At least I did but what is all of this “War Room” stuff about anyway? Man, you’re asking all of the great questions! My friend, it is about prayer, open communication between you and the one who made you. No silly, not your parents; God, your creator and sustainer! The War Room is about opening up and keeping clear and free lines of communication between you and Jesus Christ our Lord as your savior and redeemer. It is about having the barracks of your heart and soul in constant connection with headquarters.   from “WAR ROOM” …. My friend, could it be my that the reason that so many of our lives might look like ‘war torn’ battle grounds demolished by enemy tactics is because so very few of us regularly spend time in the ‘War Room?”“What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.” My friend, could it be that prayer, to be brutally honest is not something that most of us really seem to make much time for or tend to practice much in today’s times [unless of course, there is a declared state of national or personal emergency?]Could we be honest about most of our churches? In fact, if you ran a survey throughout most churches today you would discover that the PRAYER SERVICE is the least participated service of the entire church! This fact, just goes to show us how desperately in trouble we are and how much we have fallen. On one occasion, his disciples had seen his own lifestyle, passion and power of his prayers and they asked him to teach them how to pray. Look at Jesus’ personal instruction to them that still serves as a powerful model today:”And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.8“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9In this manner, therefore, pray:       Hallowed be Your name.       Your will be done       11Give us this day our daily bread.         12And forgive us our debts,         As we forgive our debtors.       For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.Text “prayerpower” 40691 Prayer then, is nothing something to just read about or talk about. It’s something to practice on a regular basis.Yes, we need to invite God into our lives through prayer and get his divine intervention employed in our war like scenarios. However, he won’’ come in unless we invite him.“God I cant make it without YOU! I NEED YOU to show up and show out in my life. God, I’m tired and exhausted from doing my thing…..please forgive me, wash me, clean me up, demonstrate your power in my life…. And have your way!”If you would like to join the “Joshua Generation” in our online prayer meetings held on the first three days of every month [1st, 2nd and 3rd] please do the following and we’ll get you the information you need.Text “WarRoom” 40691 There are no numbers missing.”

  • We meet ONLINE for prayer @ 530am central on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of each month.
  • Brother s and sisters, you owe it to yourself to make prayer a very essential part of your lifestyle on both a personal and public level. “War Room” has inspired me to take my own prayer ministry a lot more seriously. I sure hope you go out of your way to watch it and share it with others who may be inspired in this areas as I have been on a personal level.
  • Prayer then, is our invite to God. Prayer is our humble request. It is our saying to him,
  • The movie “War Room” teaches us that whether you are experiencing battle ground fatigue in your marriage, relationships, finances, health or just life in general; the solution is the same; we need to PRAY!
  • Ladies and gentlemen, let’s face it; we can have all of the teaching and instruction in the world about prayer but if we don’t ‘drop down’ on our knees to practice it, it’s all for naught.
  • To
  • To Hear A Message About How You Go To Higher Ground By Applying This Prayer Model In Your Own Life:
  • 14“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
  •        13And do not lead us into temptation,         But deliver us from the evil one.
  •        On earth as it is in heaven.
  •        10Your kingdom come.
  •        Our Father in heaven,
  • 6But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
  • MATTHEW 6:5-18
  • Consider this, our Lord Jesus himself, was a man of very passionate prayer wasn’t he? Now, if Jesus prayed as much as he did as ‘the only begotten Son of God,’ then why wouldn’t we?
  • It’s critical that you get this. How could it be that perhaps the most ESSENTIAL ministry in the church is also the most NEGLECTED ministry at the same time?
  • § We’ve ADDED a few PROGRAMS § But we’ve DELETED so much PRAYER!
  • Tragically, this lack of prayer is not just limited to a personal level. We even find a lack of prayer in most congregations. Yes, sadly the very places that should be “houses of prayer” very seldom are.
  • [written by Joseph M. Scriven / composed by Charles Crozat Converse]
  • What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
  • Do you remember the old lyrics from the hymnal that you would probably here sung from time to time but not nearly as much now?

  • Personally speaking, here’s what I’ve found to be true about prayer. Prayer is our surest pathway to higher ground. It is our 24-7 hotline to get in touch with headquarters, particularly the commander in chief of all of our human affairs. In my opinion, prayer makes us stand up a little bit taller seeing that we will never be any taller than when we are on our knees in prayer.
  • Its time for you to TAKE OFF THE GLOVES and DO IT.”
  • Its time for you to fight for your marriage
  • “You need to do your fighting in prayer. And you need to kick the real enemy out of your home …. with the word of God!
  • What was my favorite part of the “War Room?” Great question. It’s really hard to say because there were so many great parts but there is this one part when the seasoned, wise prayer warrior and widow, Miss Clara Williams [played by Karen Abercrombie] speaks heart and soul staring into the eyes of Elizabeth Jordan, a discouraged wife, mother and professional realtor who has all but lost faith [played by Priscilla Shirer] and it sort of kind of gave me that feeling that you might have gotten when you first saw “Rocky” running up the endless set of steps right before his big fight!
  • Okay I’ll tell you. There were so many powerful parts in the movie. In fact, the movie as a whole demonstrated the Kendrick’s ‘spiritual giftedness’ in pulling out every emotion there is in a man out of him in public and in the most embarrassing way possible.”
  • This dynamic, classic is the 5th film produced by the Kendrick brothers but their very first project produced through their own Kendrick Brothers Productions.

“Discipline or Disqualification? Discipline is Better!”

I Corinthians 9:24-27 [NKJV] “ Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.   But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”

The thrill of the game, the adrenalin rush, the pulse pounding impact of the watching the last few moments of a close game between rival teams. The spike in blood pressure; the blood curdling and agonizing scream you hear when our team loses …you would think that folk were playing the game themselves.

Yes, SPORTS … if not yourself, the average guy you know loves sports. Get this … with no compensation of any kind and with no physical value being obtained from it whatsoever, most of your friends are hooked on sports like powerful drugs! In fact, depending on the season, may I suggest that some of your friends may even live for the game!

Think of all of the time and money spent on one’s favorite sport and what they will do just to support or connect with their favorite athlete or team. For most of us our connection to sports starts pretty early in life. Whether “pee wee” league or intramural level, many of us tend to take our sports pretty serious.

Gratefully, if you watch them closely, there are so many powerful, life lessons that can be learned from the athlete and regardless of sport, one thing the athlete teaches us is how to utilize discipline in our lives.

See it is the athlete’s daily dose of disciple that keeps him from becoming disqualified. So, with this thought in mind, can we change sports for just a moment?

The sport for now is life and if you don’t mind I need to ask you a few serious questions to see what kind of athlete you really are:

How are you playing your game? Are you even in the game or are you still on the bench? [Out of fellowship]

Are you studied up on your winning plays? [Bible study]

Have you been coming to practice and grinding it out like you are supposed to or have you been taking short cuts? [Sin]

Are you a team player or has it been all about YOU? [Pride]

How’s your diet? Are you eating the right things; body , soul and spirit?[Meditation]

What kind of godliness in your life are you exercising? Have you set proper boundaries to maintain favor with God and man? Are you doing what it takes to earn the respect of your family, friends and those who depend on you? [Real fans]

Do you keep yourself in check with proven, winning strategies or do you let anything go in your life? How do you handle those temptations that run across your mind from time to time? How do you handle your own shadows? Your own past? Your own secrets? Your own skeletons? Your own insecurities? [Humility & Accountability]

See, there’s a lot of stuff that can get you disqualified from the game …. How will you handle those?

Before I go, allow me to offer you this thought; no matter how uncomfortable it may seem, stay with the discipline! Know this; All great athletes do and it will be no different with you. In fact, being disciplined will even be more important for you in life than it will be for your favorite athlete in the game! Make no mistake about it, you will always have the MOST to win or lose and YOU will always be the real star.

So, I say to you, let your light shine bright as it ought to and as long as it has been ordained to by living with discipline that at times may seem painful.

The reality, however is that you can choose discipline or disqualification BUT discipline is BETTER!

Stay in the game CHAMP.

Get Off Your High Horse & Give Up Your Colt!

There are so many ways that we cause ourselves much harm and stagnation simply by holding onto what we should already let go of. Case in point however, is the fact that the only real way to make room for the new is to first, let go of the old.

I’d like to imagine that life has probably taught you by now that it is not always the most gifted, talented, wealthy or even the smartest person who goes the furthest in life. Time and time again we see that the type of person who typically rises to the top in any endeavor of life is the one who learns the secret of sacrifice. In other words, the one who knows how to deny themselves what they want in the moment to get what they really want later tend to eventually get what they really want instead of what they had to settle for. By and large the masses of people however, tend to know a lot more about what it is to settle rather than what it is to experience true and lasting success because they refuse to fully understand and operate according to the laws of sacrifice.

Check this out. There’s a brief but powerful passage found in the following passage that offers us this teaching:

Mark 11:1-7, 12-14 [NKJV]

1 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; 2and He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat.

Loose it and bring it. 3And if anyone says to you, “Why are you doing this?’ say, “The

Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.”

4So they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it. 5But some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, loosing the colt?”

6And they spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So they let them go. 7Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it.

I want you to keep in mind that the owner of this colt had a choice to make. Who knows how long he had taken care of this colt; how much he had paid for it or even how long it might had been in the family. In fact, none of these details are even revealed in the story or given any attention to whatsoever. The only thing that we can really conclude from the text is that the owner was instantly willing to obey the request of the Lord. Yes, he was ready to practice the law of sacrifice. You got it! What the Lord had need of; he was more than willing to give.

Some would suggest that the Lord doesn’t need us at all and that it is we who need him! True that! Yet, in one regard; that is only partially correct. Though the Lord could and does often do profound things without us or even in spite of us; the amazing thing about his work is that he often chooses to include us. Yes, I don’t know about you so I’ll just speak for myself, I often find it absolutely amazing how the Lord speaks to my heart and soul to tell me that he has need of me! Why!!! I tell you no lie; I know for a fact that he could use so many others far more well suited than I am to do many of the things that he is doing through me. I have no doubt in my mind about that! So surely he certainly could do without any of us though none of us could ever do without him but because of who he is; he chooses to use us about as much as we are at least willing to be used. Here am I; use me Lord!!!!

Here’s something to think about:

What is it that the Lord has already pointed out to you that he ‘has need of’ in your life? What element of your life does he desire to have more of from YOU: Your time? Your Talent? Your Treasure? Are you willing to loose your colt? Are you willing to let go of anything & everything in your life that the Lord has need of & wants to use? Tragically, the answer to that question for many of us

Is a resounding “NO.” No, we are not willing to give God any more of our time, NO, we do not desire to give that gift and talent to the Lord either and finally, once and for all, NO, we do not believe in giving the Lord our hard earned money. Yet, we are so click to say how much we love God! I’m afraid a good many of us though religious as we are, are a bit too much like the fig tree, spoken about by Jesus, in the same chapter:

12 Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it.

According to the lesson from the fig tree, where do you think that pretending to give The Lord what you really haven’t given him from your heart will get you? Will you be more like the one who gave away his colt or the fig tree that pretended to be more spiritual than he really was? Hell To The Know there is a difference! Get Off Your High Horse & Give Up Your Colt!

Why Do We Have To Go Through These Changes?

I was scrolling through my news feed on Facebook and I stumbled across a stat about relationships. The question was “Why do beautiful women put up with the wackest dudes…?” I thought to my self..then I replied..”This is true…I wonder why too…but my take on it is that some of the most BEAUTIFUL women have low self esteem. And when these men approach them it’s because they are showing their ‘representative’. Some men are real slick with it…especially if the women are baring their soul to them initially.. Most women are craving love so badly that they don’t set standards or even have them for that matter and are looking through rose colored glasses…so when these men come along they sound like a dream..and they do everything to hook the women so when that initial phase is over…the real person comes out..by that time feelings are involved and the woman may look at him as an investment and women most often don’t want to lose investments….there’s more but that is a summation of what I see and hear..  I try to school these young ladies..I have been through it…so I know what it is…my generation barely made it..but I feel sooo sorry for these generations that are coming up…no real solid foundations to hold onto…they are just out to get what they can get..” This also brings me to a video of Tina..one half of the gospel duo, Mary Mary; that has gone viral over the last couple of weeks, See Here. It shows her being caught up in a moment of rage over her husband’s cheating affairs. At first I was judgemental because I couldn’t understand how could someone of that stature air out her dirty laundry on reality tv..after all it’s a little different than some of the other reality shows that I have seen (we’ll save that for another day). The truth is I’m glad that she did because it erases some of the stereotypes that women in the gospel world face in their own personal lives. Most people forget that yet they speak in tongues, and sing you to life; they also deal with some of the same issues that we normal folk deal with. I think the problem of putting them on a pedestal alienates them from having real feelings, real issues, etc. The problem is not having the issue, but the reaction that you have to the issue. Yes we know in church the we are taught to forgive, love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek…but when issues arise do we really seek the face of God? Or do our natural carnal selves kick in? The Bible speaks of having on the full armor of God…but in times of hurt and pain do we really? I think part of the problem is that we as humans are constantly evolving…each generation has its own coping mechanism to the changing systems that preceded them…and setting their own individualism at the same time….it’s the survival of the fittest….All in all in the process of evolution..what happens externally happens internally as well… Perhaps there is a change in “role” dynamics? Are there undercurrents of feminism displayed in the raising of fatherless men? Hence the term “b%$#&a!#ness” ? Or…or is it the Freudian theory that references that men are attracted to women that resemble (features, mannerisms) their mothers, and women are attracted to men that resemble (features, mannerisms) their fathers?  Are men and women upholding the standards of their parents? Well what happens if there is lacking on either side of the equation? Is there a missing quotient? Do we just add in the factor that’s missing? Or do we look for examples and mimic them from our “community”

Watching this video, I can actually say that I’ve been there. I’ve been broken down to a level this extreme. Maybe even more extreme. I don’t care how strong you are. If you love a person (think you are in love), then you will go through hell and hell some more. Most women are programmed from a young age to stick by their man, the more you stick by him, he will change. That’s not true unless he wants to change. I can actually say that I don’t have that baggage anymore. I left that type of relationship a long time ago. So any man that I date or have a relationship with in this present day, I will not allow him to break me down to that level. It’s a mutual thing. If you love me and adore me then it is reciprocated wholeheartedly. No games, no half-assed attempts, and no side pieces.

What are your thoughts?

What’s Trending with Women With Gifts: Pray With Us

Pray with us.. A lot of times when things get hard we tend to ask other people to pray for us which is perfectly fine, but it’s time that we stand up to our issues and pray over them. We, as believers have become too relaxed in asking and telling others to pray over our situations and we forget about the power that God has given us. Here’s two scriptures that proves that not only does God hear us when we pray he gives us the desires of our heart.

Psalm 37:4 Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Proverbs 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the  righteous.

In April 2014, myself and Women With Gifts started hosting our Monday Morning Conference Call prayer in order to reach other people, other women that needed prayer and was really going through something-like turmoil, trials, and tribulations. We pray EVERY SINGLE MONDAY rain, sleet or snow and even on holidays and we’ve done so for over a year.

We want to thank everyone in advance for joining us every Monday on our prayer conference call. This prayer is hosted by Women With Gifts and lead by our founder LaNette Kincaid but our prayer is NOT just for women. Our goal with this prayer is to heal our nation, build and encourage God people with emphasis on our women, and also take back the MONDAY that people have deemed to be the worst day of the week. Join our conference call prayer every Monday at 6am cst|7am est by calling 712-775-7400 access code 513886# ATTENTION: International callers are welcome to this call use this timezone converter in order to join our prayer at 6am cst.presenting (1)

Do You Too Need A Total Life Change – What’s Your Plan?

Part I

1 Corinthians 6:19 [NIV]

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

It has long been stated in numerous ways that man in his essence is a “spirit” who has a “soul” and lives in a “body.” This much we also know, according to John 4:24, God is a Spirit and like Father, like children! This is to say, in agreement with the teaching of Genesis 1:27, that God created man in his own image and likeness. So then, since we are spirit, what do we do with these bodies? These ‘earth suits?’ These ‘earthen vessels?’ These ‘clay containers?’

In the ‘body’ of Christ today we see a lot of emphasis placed on the spiritual realm and so we should. After all and again, spirit is who we are in the very core of our beings. Yes, we are undoubtedly spiritual beings and in this fact, we have an undeniable likeness with the God of creation who scooped up the earth’s dust and blew his breath into his created master piece to make us living souls.

So then, our God consciousness, an awareness of the fact that both God our creator and we his creation are spirit is something that should always be critically important. Next to that priority however, is the understanding of our consciousness with ourselves and the world around us. This is what takes place in the realm of our souls. PASTER MEL-1Our soul gives us our mental reasoning and our emotional powers. If the soul of a man was his glory then his spirit would be his crown. Lastly, as is commonly known, it is our bodies though, that gives us the ability of our five known senses of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. It is our physical bodies then [our outer shell, the temporary home we live in] that we are able to connect with the physical world around us to enjoy the everyday lives we live. Like it or not; this is the biblical order and arrangement of things concerning man in his place on earth.

Yet most Christians today, as critical as it is to place a significance on the lives we live in the spirit and even in the realm of the soul; we often do so at the exclusion or the expense of our bodies. In other words, it is far too common place for those who follow Christ, as I do, to treat our spirits or even souls as holy and sacred to God but then to still treat our bodies in ‘any kind of way!’

Tragically though, God’s word reminds us that our bodies are His temple and are to be treated as such; we literally exercise very little restraint if any in how we treat our bodies! Shout ‘

amen if you know I’m telling the truth c’mon now you don’t have to be a pastor, preacher or bible scholar to see that there is a great gap between how God tells us to take care of our bodies and how we really do. In fact, I’m sure that many of the same folk in ministry leadership that you know have even developed a habit of trashing their bodies with the idea that this is spiritually acceptable to God. I tell you “The devil is a lie!”

C’mon now! To do ministry, you need a body! It doesn’t matter how well you preach, teach or anything else; once you destroy your body; you can’t be there to help anyone else; game over! The problem is that we are not nearly as wholistic in our lifestyles as we ought to be. We tend to compartmentalize certain areas and master them while neglecting the others! Here is where the question must be raised; isn’t God concerned about your Total Life? Is he only concerned about a portion of it or all of it? Surely prayer is important and even essential but is prayer really the “total answer” if you are still going to trash your body with all kinds of drugs, poisons, toxins and unhealthy foods that do everything from increase the likelihood of you getting high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or a stroke? Aren’t we putting the cart before the horse in merely pretending to be spiritual about something we need to be a bit more self controlled and practical about according to the knowledge that God has told us to live by?

I don’t know about you but my eyes are now wide open to living with a respect not only for spiritual things or things that effect the deep places of my soul but I can also now see and respect the need for me to take the care of my body! Yes … I know I won’t live in this body forever but while I’m here; I need this thing to work right! I want it to get up when I say get up! I want it to go when I say go! I want my energy to last through the day without me feeling like I have crashed and burned out by 4 o’clock and truth be told, all of these desires will require some changes in my life. So, I’ve decided to be intentional about the changes I needed to make because no good thing will happen by accident.

Keep in mind, like some of you, I was already on track with my spiritual foundation in Christ. I have also learned through habit to be extremely passionate about implementing the soul care I need in my life. This is why I invest time with my mentors, coaches, family and close friends that help me to stay rooted and grounded.   In addition to that, I was so incredibly blessed just a few weeks ago implementing some more of my soul care strategy; spending a few days of quiet, solitude at Galveston beach again to help restore my soul from my often demanding schedule. It always does wonders for your soul; unplugging from my normal flow of life and sitting still and quiet for a few days is an exercise a few times each year! If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it to you.

Finally however, I have just one other recommendation. I’ve also started to make some a physical changes to allow for the Total Life Change that I had been taking for granted and missing out on for decades.

Now thank God, after making these simple changes, my energy is back up like it was more than 10 years ago! Not only that but by extra weight is steadily declining. I’m especially enjoying the detox that takes place every time I sip my cup of tea. Yes, praise God, I now have everything it takes to enjoy a Total Life Change. The truth is that we all need a Total Life Change in one way or another.

So, what are you doing for your spiritual growth and development? Is your foundation built on Christ? Surely, he is my chief corner stone. What strategies and plans do you have in place to impact the deep places in your soul? What is that you are doing regularly that restores your soul? Finally, are you taking good care of your temple or are you taking your body for granted; pushing it way past its set boundaries?

Remember, man is a spirit that has a soul but he lives in a body. It’s time to take care of ALL of YOU; not just a part. You need a TOTAL LIFE CHANGE.

My Story: How I Survived

MarquettaMay 21, 2012 was the day that I received the most devastating news of my life. Out of the three breast biopsies performed one came back positive for breast cancer. Denial set in, I kept thinking this could not possibly be true. “I’m a child of God and something like this could not possibly happen to me” is what I kept thinking. No one in my family had ever been diagnosed with cancer, I am the first of nine siblings. Not even my parents or grandparents ever faced this disease. Cancer does not discriminate. My diagnosis came at the age 54 and I was employed as a school bus driver for FWISD.  I had been witness to several coworkers suffering with the same diagnoses not even realizing I would have to do some of the same things they were doing including losing my hair. Thank God for my pastor, my children, and my church family because without their support and prayers this journey would have had a very different outcome. One of the hardest things I had to do was tell my daughters because this disease would not only impact my life but theirs also. I love them so much, My daughters suggested I get a second opinion and paid for me to go to a Holistic Doctor. Needless to say when the Dr showed me the cancer cells that was in just one drop of blood under a microscope, my very own prayer partner and sister in Christ Debrah witnessed it as well, and at that moment I felt closer to death than I had ever been in my whole life. So it was established that the cancer was real and that I was in a battle for not just my natural life but my spiritual life as well. A true test of faith. Through faith, hope, and trust in Almighty God and the words of wisdom spoken to me by a great and wise woman of God Pastor Jackson I am still here. I survived surgery, chemo, radiation and hormone therapy. To God be the Glory.

Behind The Scenes Of the I Survived Gospel Concert

MakeoversRecently, Women With Gifts presented the I Survived Gospel Concert on Saturday, March 7,2015. Women With Gifts is an organization for women that Women With Gifts is an organization of women using their gifts and talents that GOD has blessed them with. Our organization believes in leadership development, teaching and motivating others. One of the reasons that we, Enticing Resultz Magazine is so involved with this event because we were abled to be sponsors of this event. Since the event was organized by LaNette Kincaid ,we not only wanted an exclusive interview about the event itself, but we also wanted more of a behind the scenes account of the event as well. Here’s a detailed interview about 2015 I Survived Gospel Concert.

ER: What is the purpose for the I Survived Gospel Concert?Dunbar Choir

LK: Ultimately, ISGC is a concert and movement to allow survivors to have a platform to tell about the issues that they have experienced in regards to breast cancer, domestic violence, and sexual abuse. In addition, it was created to bring survivors and “pre-survivors” in one place. Pre- Survivors are people wanting to be in a survival state but they are not quite at the survivor stage yet. Gospel music heals the soul unlike other music genres that put you on a superficial high for a brief moment. So with you put the two together the concert was born.

ER: What surprised you about this event?

LK:I must say I was shocked about the survivors that came out to support the event. I’m also shocked by the people who randomly told me their survivor stories and they don’t know me, but they feel safe telling about their experience. I didn’t want to say anything about this but, I was also shocked that this event didn’t gain the exposure of major news outlets. I just knew that the public and the community would want to know about something positive happening in the city and state besides crime.

Another shocker was when I received an inbox the week of the event telling me that reality show “I Can Only Be Me” was going to not only attend the event but they would be filming certain parts of the show. I was totally shocked by that. I even cried!

ER: Why is it so important for ISGC to get media coverage or exposure?

LK: Media exposure for this event is important because sexual abuse and domestic abuse is now considered to be more of an epidemic or a pandemic in our society. Notice I used words that we normally use when speaking about diseases, but that the affect that these two abuses are taking on society. I mean really our children can’t even attend school anymore without hearing that their teachers are having sex with their peers. In addition we hosted this event at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Although Dunbar is a great school with great educational programs on the inside, on the outside of the school everyone has branded this area as Stop Six-a community known for poverty and gang violence. With that being said, when something bad happens in the community media outlets are right on the scene reporting these horrific incidents. Why not report when the school is involved in something positive. By the way the school and the community has made great improvements by based on the lack of media coverage no one really knows that.

ER: What did you like most about the event?

LK: The overwhelming amount of support and the survivors telling their story at this event.. Their stories would start somewhat sad but end on a triumphant note. One thing that stuck with me even after the event is an example that Evangelist Patsy Cole used she compared experience of sexual abuse and being molested as a child to an olive being crushed and bruised but still producing oil. That comparison was so real for me. As survivors we all have gone through something, but we are still standing. Her statement was so profound. Afterwards each honoree was presented with a gift from the Chief Of Police, Rhonda Robertson. Granted, anyone could have given the honorees the gifts but it meant something for them to receive such honor from Fort Worth’s Chief of Police.

ER: Tell us about the performers and why they were selected for the ISGC.Nicole Lashaun Ministries Chozen Tx

LK: First let me say that I when I first started this process I wasn’t looking for any superstars that would think they were larger than this vision or larger than the purpose of the event itself. The full purpose of this event is about the survivors- this is their platform.Gwen GiGi Gray DSC_0251

Each of the performers brought something major to this event.

In start, New Generation and Minister R. L. Taylor & The Sons Of The Father were selected for lovers of traditional down home quartet gospel music.

Spirit of David and Nichole Lashaun is for lovers of great choir songs and also praise and worship music. Nichole Lashaun is also a preachers kid that leads and teaches vocal lessons. She recently performed at a gospel concert at The House of Blues.

Christian rapper and minister, I am Justified and quartet group Chozen were both selected for the youth, hip generation.

Gwen Gi Gi Gray is a jazz gospel singer and besides her being able to sing , I wanted her to be the example of the current Dunbar students and people of the Stop- Six District. Gwen is a Dunbar alumni who has a successful singing career. Her performance was followed a short motivational speech by Coach Robert Hughes Sr.-retired Dunbar Basketball coach, who led Dunbar to 35 state championships and 5 national championships. Lekisha Earles was referred to me by my prayer partner Pastor Clara Peters and when I heard her voice and read her bio I was sold on her being a part of the show. At the time, I had no idea that she was a cast member of I Can Only Be Me Reality Show. Last but not least, Dunbar High School Choir and band performed at our concert which was truly a bonus to the concert.

ER: If you could you change anything about the ISGC what would it be??

LK: It’s without saying that this concert could’ve use some tweaking. I Survived Gospel Concert was my first production of this magnitude. In addition to this being my first big production, I want to add that I wasn’t able to truly start planning until I received a final approval from the school district to host this event at their school. We didn’t get that approval until December of 2014. So in essence, I only had 4 brief months to pull everything together. I didn’t have a do-over button so I couldn’t change anything. I only want to take the experience from March 7,2015 and make 2016 I Survived Gospel Concert better.

Although I wouldn’t change the performers we had, I do want to clarify that this event is for African-Americans. The ISGC platform is for anyone who can really sing. It is also our goal to connect with more organizations to meet the needs of our survivors and pre-survivors.

ER: What do you expect from future ISGC events?

LK:I am striving for nothing but the best with these events. My ultimate goal with this event is to reach both survivors and “pre survivors” and eventually mend the gap between the two. In other words this event will be the platform as well as a healing ground for the people who have had battles with breast cancer or the experiences of sexual abuse and domestic violence. In saying that, I also want to reach families who have lost loved ones to these causes. I may be a tad spoiled but since our first show had a reality show involved I would love to keep the reality show present. That was pretty cool.

ER: What was the greatest experience of the ISGC this year?

LK: Meeting all of the performers and honorees and it was just like a big family reunion I picked up LaRonda Humphrey, one of the honorees who travelled from New Orleans and we talked for hours like we were sisters. I loved our sponsors that helped with the vision.

I loved seeing the honorees get makeovers from Chalkface Inc. Seeing some of the artists get makeovers before performing and having sound check put this production on another level. I kept thinking, “wow God this is serious”.

ER: What were some of the shows setbacks?

LK: When I first talked to my prayer associate Pastor Clara Peters about my plans with the show, she warned me to be prepared for setbacks of the show . She also warned me to always have a plan B.

Here were some of the setback of ISGC:

Host of the show

First host cancelled because I didn’t send the hotel reservation via email within the time they expected Not making excuses but during this same time my aunt passed and my brother was in the hospital. I didn’t communicate that to the host because I wanted to keep my personal life separate from planning

After finding another host for the show beyond our control, we lost the host in a split second. Dunbar High School is an older high school and wheel chair accessibility hasn’t been updated for the auditorium’s stage. Our host needed to be able to host from the stage and there was not a way our production or school could make that happen. Although I was really disappointed about that situation, I had to remember that things like this was one of the reasons for ISGC to give back to the school. A portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales were donated back to Dunbar High School. On a better note about the host and co- host of the ISGC, we landed Pastor Mel Keys of J Radio, author of Joshua Generation “Hell To The Know” and pastor of Joshua Generation and Tessa Allen from spotlight radio show in Houston . What a pair they were amazing!

My Health

In January 2014, I got extremely sick I thought I was dying. Turns out I was food poisoned, but this illness lead to other findings in my health. Not only was I severely anemic, I had two tumors on my ovaries. So to fast forward I finally decide to have surgery in October of 2014 to have issues corrected.. So I was contacting potential artist in October praying that they would stay on board while I recuperated from my surgery.

Mother Nature

Two weeks before the event the weather in Texas was a mess, just horrible. my plans were to be like a street team type of marketing right before the show. It was ice everywhere! Only in Texas will it freeze one day and the sun shining the next day. I love my state!

Untrustworthy People

People who pretended they really wanted to be a part of the vision. People who lied about ticket sales, people who lied about graphics we needed and couldn’t meet the dead line. People, People, People…..and I literally could go on about this all day. In saying ,all this about the negative. God really turned the negatives into positives. I’m grateful for that. Although these things sound horrible I actually laugh at how God still blessed and improvised throughout every circumstance.

OUR TICKETS:

Our tickets weren’t really a setback, but I wanted to mention them because all I cared about was how cute and professional the tickets were. I mean really these tickets looked as if you were going to superstar type concert and I didn’t realize until the week of the event that they didn’t have a time on them. Oopsie!

ER: What were the overall highlights of the show

LK: My mother was one of the honorees of the show. We also had a moment of silence for our host, Pastor Mel’s mom who he lost in December of 2014. That was huge!! Our show started to the beats of the Dunbar band which shocked everyone. Even me! I must say that Dunbar’s band and choir is one of the most talented in FWISD.

ER: Any one last minute thoughts?

LK: Yes, Thank you to Mr. Carlos Walker, the principal of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School. It is very hard trying to keep religious functions in our schools and I thank him for allowing and approving the ISGC to take place at this school. I will never forget him for that. Thanks to my 13 year old Lady Zee she actually turned into a beast to market and promote my events and then after their over she turns back into a cute little book worm. Hugs and love to everyone for your love and support.

I tried to post all of our highlights on every social media network possible so please follow us at #ISurvived2015   or @ISurvived2015

ER: What advice would you give people creating an event or production ?

LK: Have a back-up plan for everything. Play in your mind as a perfect event , then you wipe your mind clean and replay your event again. The second time be sure to include possible disasters. Don’t trust everyone.. Don’t’ assume that everyone wants you to have a successful event.

Don’t give up !Don’t get distracted ! Turn off the phone, turn off the social media, 1 month,1 week before the event. You will love yourself for it. Stay focused on your event!
