Maybe you saw it ! You did go to see it didn’t you? Well, you need to! Yes, you owe it to yourself to see the best movie I’ve seen in decades and trust me when I say that I love my movies! Yes, of course, I’m talking about “War Room.” What other movie could I possibly be talking about on this level?

  • Provident FilmsWar Room’ is a 2015 American Christiandrama filmdirected by  Alex Kendrickand cowritten and produced by his brother Stephen Kendrick. This film reaffirms the core teaching known by just a handful that prayer needs to be staged and prepared for much like combat does in a military ‘War Room‘ environment where life and death can hang in the balance.Of course, nobody saw me shed a tear [at least not those who weren’t in my row.]”Kendrick brothers, you are wrong for that! Here’s the scene: Its time for you to fight Elizabeth. Its time for you to fight THE REAL ENEMY You gotta love it! At least I did but what is all of this “War Room” stuff about anyway? Man, you’re asking all of the great questions! My friend, it is about prayer, open communication between you and the one who made you. No silly, not your parents; God, your creator and sustainer! The War Room is about opening up and keeping clear and free lines of communication between you and Jesus Christ our Lord as your savior and redeemer. It is about having the barracks of your heart and soul in constant connection with headquarters.   from “WAR ROOM” …. My friend, could it be my that the reason that so many of our lives might look like ‘war torn’ battle grounds demolished by enemy tactics is because so very few of us regularly spend time in the ‘War Room?”“What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.” My friend, could it be that prayer, to be brutally honest is not something that most of us really seem to make much time for or tend to practice much in today’s times [unless of course, there is a declared state of national or personal emergency?]Could we be honest about most of our churches? In fact, if you ran a survey throughout most churches today you would discover that the PRAYER SERVICE is the least participated service of the entire church! This fact, just goes to show us how desperately in trouble we are and how much we have fallen. On one occasion, his disciples had seen his own lifestyle, passion and power of his prayers and they asked him to teach them how to pray. Look at Jesus’ personal instruction to them that still serves as a powerful model today:”And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.8“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9In this manner, therefore, pray:       Hallowed be Your name.       Your will be done       11Give us this day our daily bread.         12And forgive us our debts,         As we forgive our debtors.       For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.Text “prayerpower” 40691 Prayer then, is nothing something to just read about or talk about. It’s something to practice on a regular basis.Yes, we need to invite God into our lives through prayer and get his divine intervention employed in our war like scenarios. However, he won’’ come in unless we invite him.“God I cant make it without YOU! I NEED YOU to show up and show out in my life. God, I’m tired and exhausted from doing my thing…..please forgive me, wash me, clean me up, demonstrate your power in my life…. And have your way!”If you would like to join the “Joshua Generation” in our online prayer meetings held on the first three days of every month [1st, 2nd and 3rd] please do the following and we’ll get you the information you need.Text “WarRoom” 40691 There are no numbers missing.”

  • We meet ONLINE for prayer @ 530am central on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of each month.
  • Brother s and sisters, you owe it to yourself to make prayer a very essential part of your lifestyle on both a personal and public level. “War Room” has inspired me to take my own prayer ministry a lot more seriously. I sure hope you go out of your way to watch it and share it with others who may be inspired in this areas as I have been on a personal level.
  • Prayer then, is our invite to God. Prayer is our humble request. It is our saying to him,
  • The movie “War Room” teaches us that whether you are experiencing battle ground fatigue in your marriage, relationships, finances, health or just life in general; the solution is the same; we need to PRAY!
  • Ladies and gentlemen, let’s face it; we can have all of the teaching and instruction in the world about prayer but if we don’t ‘drop down’ on our knees to practice it, it’s all for naught.
  • To
  • To Hear A Message About How You Go To Higher Ground By Applying This Prayer Model In Your Own Life:
  • 14“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
  •        13And do not lead us into temptation,         But deliver us from the evil one.
  •        On earth as it is in heaven.
  •        10Your kingdom come.
  •        Our Father in heaven,
  • 6But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
  • MATTHEW 6:5-18
  • Consider this, our Lord Jesus himself, was a man of very passionate prayer wasn’t he? Now, if Jesus prayed as much as he did as ‘the only begotten Son of God,’ then why wouldn’t we?
  • It’s critical that you get this. How could it be that perhaps the most ESSENTIAL ministry in the church is also the most NEGLECTED ministry at the same time?
  • § We’ve ADDED a few PROGRAMS § But we’ve DELETED so much PRAYER!
  • Tragically, this lack of prayer is not just limited to a personal level. We even find a lack of prayer in most congregations. Yes, sadly the very places that should be “houses of prayer” very seldom are.
  • [written by Joseph M. Scriven / composed by Charles Crozat Converse]
  • What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
  • Do you remember the old lyrics from the hymnal that you would probably here sung from time to time but not nearly as much now?

  • Personally speaking, here’s what I’ve found to be true about prayer. Prayer is our surest pathway to higher ground. It is our 24-7 hotline to get in touch with headquarters, particularly the commander in chief of all of our human affairs. In my opinion, prayer makes us stand up a little bit taller seeing that we will never be any taller than when we are on our knees in prayer.
  • Its time for you to TAKE OFF THE GLOVES and DO IT.”
  • Its time for you to fight for your marriage
  • “You need to do your fighting in prayer. And you need to kick the real enemy out of your home …. with the word of God!
  • What was my favorite part of the “War Room?” Great question. It’s really hard to say because there were so many great parts but there is this one part when the seasoned, wise prayer warrior and widow, Miss Clara Williams [played by Karen Abercrombie] speaks heart and soul staring into the eyes of Elizabeth Jordan, a discouraged wife, mother and professional realtor who has all but lost faith [played by Priscilla Shirer] and it sort of kind of gave me that feeling that you might have gotten when you first saw “Rocky” running up the endless set of steps right before his big fight!
  • Okay I’ll tell you. There were so many powerful parts in the movie. In fact, the movie as a whole demonstrated the Kendrick’s ‘spiritual giftedness’ in pulling out every emotion there is in a man out of him in public and in the most embarrassing way possible.”
  • This dynamic, classic is the 5th film produced by the Kendrick brothers but their very first project produced through their own Kendrick Brothers Productions.

“Discipline or Disqualification? Discipline is Better!”

I Corinthians 9:24-27 [NKJV] “ Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.   But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”

The thrill of the game, the adrenalin rush, the pulse pounding impact of the watching the last few moments of a close game between rival teams. The spike in blood pressure; the blood curdling and agonizing scream you hear when our team loses …you would think that folk were playing the game themselves.

Yes, SPORTS … if not yourself, the average guy you know loves sports. Get this … with no compensation of any kind and with no physical value being obtained from it whatsoever, most of your friends are hooked on sports like powerful drugs! In fact, depending on the season, may I suggest that some of your friends may even live for the game!

Think of all of the time and money spent on one’s favorite sport and what they will do just to support or connect with their favorite athlete or team. For most of us our connection to sports starts pretty early in life. Whether “pee wee” league or intramural level, many of us tend to take our sports pretty serious.

Gratefully, if you watch them closely, there are so many powerful, life lessons that can be learned from the athlete and regardless of sport, one thing the athlete teaches us is how to utilize discipline in our lives.

See it is the athlete’s daily dose of disciple that keeps him from becoming disqualified. So, with this thought in mind, can we change sports for just a moment?

The sport for now is life and if you don’t mind I need to ask you a few serious questions to see what kind of athlete you really are:

How are you playing your game? Are you even in the game or are you still on the bench? [Out of fellowship]

Are you studied up on your winning plays? [Bible study]

Have you been coming to practice and grinding it out like you are supposed to or have you been taking short cuts? [Sin]

Are you a team player or has it been all about YOU? [Pride]

How’s your diet? Are you eating the right things; body , soul and spirit?[Meditation]

What kind of godliness in your life are you exercising? Have you set proper boundaries to maintain favor with God and man? Are you doing what it takes to earn the respect of your family, friends and those who depend on you? [Real fans]

Do you keep yourself in check with proven, winning strategies or do you let anything go in your life? How do you handle those temptations that run across your mind from time to time? How do you handle your own shadows? Your own past? Your own secrets? Your own skeletons? Your own insecurities? [Humility & Accountability]

See, there’s a lot of stuff that can get you disqualified from the game …. How will you handle those?

Before I go, allow me to offer you this thought; no matter how uncomfortable it may seem, stay with the discipline! Know this; All great athletes do and it will be no different with you. In fact, being disciplined will even be more important for you in life than it will be for your favorite athlete in the game! Make no mistake about it, you will always have the MOST to win or lose and YOU will always be the real star.

So, I say to you, let your light shine bright as it ought to and as long as it has been ordained to by living with discipline that at times may seem painful.

The reality, however is that you can choose discipline or disqualification BUT discipline is BETTER!

Stay in the game CHAMP.

Book Reader’s Spotlight: Angie Christine

Angie Christine was born in Brooklyn New York to the Late Johnny Hitt Jr. and the late Betty Hitt. As a youngster Angie would gather her friends at her house and tell them stories she would make up on her own. She appeared in a commercial for a local record store in Manhattan called Disco Mat back in the late 70’s. As she got older and went to high school she was performing, and writing for her dramatic arts class at Sheepshead Bay highschool in Brooklyn Ny. After college she joined the NYPD police force in Brooklyn and decided to leave New York after 9-11 . Divorced and raising a daughter, Angie moved to Newport News Virginia to start a new life. Angie Chirstine decided to write her first book after the closing of her employment at Circuit City. In 2009, “The Fireman” was released and everyone loved the story. She decided to release another book titled Opposites Attract. In April 2010, she and a friend headed south to Atlanta Georgia to the Monique Show where she presented the actress and talk show host with copies of her books. Monique gave Angie the biggest hug and shedded a tear because of the fact that Angie added her to her dedication page in her second book. Her 3rd book titled “Tantalizing Pleasures” is also a big hit.

“Tantalizing Pleasures” is an erotic story of 2 people who fell in love for the right reasons. Are you ready to be tantalized?  Rebecca was raised in the midwest and decided to move to the Big Apple…..New York City after she graduated from college. Rebecca is a stock broker working at the famous Wall Street stock exchange building. One morning a tall Marine who had come back from Iraq came there to ring the morning bell. He was a hero that saved some of his squad from death. That morning was the best thing that happened to Rebecca and from that day on the rest was nothing but the greatest love affair anyone would die for.

Angie Christine is currently working on her 4th book titled “The Fireman’s Revenge”, which is the sequel to the first book “The Fireman”

SM: Hello, how are you? Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share with our audience.

AC: Thank you so much for having me as a guest.

SM: How would you describe your experience as a writer? You left your career as a Nypd officer to pursue a writing career, how do they compare?

AC: I love every aspect of being an author. Sometimes it can be challenging to convince people to purchase your book when you’re not out there in the social media like Terry McMillan or Steve Harvey or even Steven King. No one would have any 2nd thoughts to purchasing their books because of who they are…….people are starting to get to know Angie Christine little by little now. Once someone let’s me know how great my book was i would tell them to go spread the word. Word of mouth travels faster than mail.

SM: Which book to date would you say is your favorite, and why?

AC: Well first and foremost the Bible is my first love. In fact i still carry the Bible my parents recieved from the church that married them 54 years ago, but my favorite book of what I wrote is Tantalizing Pleasures. This book is my 3rd. The reason why I picked this book is because I see alot of myself in the character name Rebecca in the book.

SM: Have you shared any of your revelations in any of your book? Have any of them been based on a true story?

AC: Well in Tantalizing Pleasures the main character Rebecca fell madly in love with a Sgt. who was a Marine. I once dated a military guy but he was in the Army. I changed the branch because I love Marines….lol.   The story had bits and pieces of the military guy that I dated but I won’t reveal which ones. Tantalizing Pleasures wasn’t based on a true story though.

SM: What was your experience like on the Monique Show?  Is she as down to earth in person as she is on the big screen?

AC: Seeing Monique was a dream come true. I am such a big fan of hers and I think they need to put her show back on television. Alot of people can relate to her. She didn’t grow up rich and she battled a weight problem. The media always thinks skinny is better, but she flipped the script to show the world that she is just as talented as someone who is skinny.

SM: Tell me about your 4th book The Firemans Revenge.

AC: It’s about a guy who is a seeking revenge of his brother’s death. This book is part 2 to the first book I wrote back in 2009 titled; “The Fireman”. Everyone told me that I needed to follow up and do a sequel, so began writing and it was released in June 2015.

SM: Any last remarks?

AC: Yes! To everyone that’s reading this interview right now please follow your dreams. Don’t let anyone discourage you from anything you feel is right. Achieve all you can and don’t settle for less. The most important thing is……ALWAYS KEEP GOD FIRST IN YOUR LIFE AND YOU WILL GO ALL THE WAY.

Taking Care Of Self II

On August 18, 2014, I posted, “I chose to begin taking Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis or PrEP as another way to take back control of my life.  As a man of color who is also same-gender-loving the odds are against me in quite a few ways.  Instead of allowing the world to get me, I’m taking a stand with my health.”  Well it is almost a year later and I am still taking PReP but my reasons have changed slightly.

In late March 2015, I attended the YBGLI (Young Black Gay Men’s Leadership Initiative) Policy & Advocacy Summit in Baltimore, Maryland.  As I tell people this was my first “big boy” conference where my limits were pushed, emotions discussed, and where I had the opportunity to create bonds with some of the most brilliant young minds of my generation.  My greatest take away from this experience was that I too am BRILLIANT.  For many years, I battled with the internal struggle of accepting that I am not what I have been led to believe and more over that I do not have to feed into what society’s ideals of what a professional young black same-gender-loving man is or looks like.  Three days of challenging myself from early morning to late into the evening brought me a rejuvenated sense of self-love and respect for others experiences. Featured image

(SideBar: Room 1217 was all I could ever ask for!  Thank you to everyone who graced that room with their presence.)

The experiences that moved me most were the stories of the gentle-persons who were Living with HIV.  Working in the HIV/AIDS field for almost a decade did not prepare me for the amount of HIV status disclosure I went through during those three days.  I am forever grateful for the eye-opening personal experiences that were shared.  There was one young man’s testimony of his diagnosis that had me in tears when he said, “I wish things like PReP were available to me before I was diagnosed.”  In that emotional moment I had to reflect on my own sh#%. Yes, I was taking PReP, but my own adherence to a drug that was not –and is not- always available to everyone was at the time rocky at best.

Over the next few weeks, I took a hard look at myself thinking over the choices that led me to deciding to begin PReP; my circumstances had changed.  I had been consciously practicing abstinence and saw no risk factor that attributed to me needing to continue with PReP.  I stopped cold turkey…remembering that while not instantly unprotected, if I chose to have unprotected sex my extra helper would not be there anymore to aid me in my hour of need.  As life would have it a situation occurred where unprotected sex did happen and all I could think about was that little blue pill.

Thankfully still negative, the realization that I had come to was that in this life we can’t do everything alone.  While wise enough to not use protection, I hadn’t.  I began PReP again and this time I saw it as not only my aid; No instead PReP is now my wake up call to a reality that I need to protect myself for myself and stop putting my life in others hands.  No longer do I have the mindset that if I desire to stay negative I am doing my part by popping a pill, leaving myself open for STDs including HIV, and putting trust in my partner to be ‘condom ready’.

Why Do We Have To Go Through These Changes?

I was scrolling through my news feed on Facebook and I stumbled across a stat about relationships. The question was “Why do beautiful women put up with the wackest dudes…?” I thought to my self..then I replied..”This is true…I wonder why too…but my take on it is that some of the most BEAUTIFUL women have low self esteem. And when these men approach them it’s because they are showing their ‘representative’. Some men are real slick with it…especially if the women are baring their soul to them initially.. Most women are craving love so badly that they don’t set standards or even have them for that matter and are looking through rose colored glasses…so when these men come along they sound like a dream..and they do everything to hook the women so when that initial phase is over…the real person comes out..by that time feelings are involved and the woman may look at him as an investment and women most often don’t want to lose investments….there’s more but that is a summation of what I see and hear..  I try to school these young ladies..I have been through it…so I know what it is…my generation barely made it..but I feel sooo sorry for these generations that are coming up…no real solid foundations to hold onto…they are just out to get what they can get..” This also brings me to a video of Tina..one half of the gospel duo, Mary Mary; that has gone viral over the last couple of weeks, See Here. It shows her being caught up in a moment of rage over her husband’s cheating affairs. At first I was judgemental because I couldn’t understand how could someone of that stature air out her dirty laundry on reality tv..after all it’s a little different than some of the other reality shows that I have seen (we’ll save that for another day). The truth is I’m glad that she did because it erases some of the stereotypes that women in the gospel world face in their own personal lives. Most people forget that yet they speak in tongues, and sing you to life; they also deal with some of the same issues that we normal folk deal with. I think the problem of putting them on a pedestal alienates them from having real feelings, real issues, etc. The problem is not having the issue, but the reaction that you have to the issue. Yes we know in church the we are taught to forgive, love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek…but when issues arise do we really seek the face of God? Or do our natural carnal selves kick in? The Bible speaks of having on the full armor of God…but in times of hurt and pain do we really? I think part of the problem is that we as humans are constantly evolving…each generation has its own coping mechanism to the changing systems that preceded them…and setting their own individualism at the same time….it’s the survival of the fittest….All in all in the process of evolution..what happens externally happens internally as well… Perhaps there is a change in “role” dynamics? Are there undercurrents of feminism displayed in the raising of fatherless men? Hence the term “b%$#&a!#ness” ? Or…or is it the Freudian theory that references that men are attracted to women that resemble (features, mannerisms) their mothers, and women are attracted to men that resemble (features, mannerisms) their fathers?  Are men and women upholding the standards of their parents? Well what happens if there is lacking on either side of the equation? Is there a missing quotient? Do we just add in the factor that’s missing? Or do we look for examples and mimic them from our “community”

Watching this video, I can actually say that I’ve been there. I’ve been broken down to a level this extreme. Maybe even more extreme. I don’t care how strong you are. If you love a person (think you are in love), then you will go through hell and hell some more. Most women are programmed from a young age to stick by their man, the more you stick by him, he will change. That’s not true unless he wants to change. I can actually say that I don’t have that baggage anymore. I left that type of relationship a long time ago. So any man that I date or have a relationship with in this present day, I will not allow him to break me down to that level. It’s a mutual thing. If you love me and adore me then it is reciprocated wholeheartedly. No games, no half-assed attempts, and no side pieces.

What are your thoughts?

Life is a Beautiful Struggle….

“Life is a beautiful struggle..People search through the rubble for a suitable hustle..”

Talib Kweli
“I Try”

I remember my guidance counselor in Jr. High school asking me to write a speech. Well I couldn’t think of anything to write. Not one thing. She told me something that cured my writers block. “Just start writing..you can choose a title and edit later.” I didn’t totally understand, but I did start writing the first thing that came to my mind. I built a storyline around it..and it was easier to choose a title. Because I had the subject matter I could choose any title that I wanted, the hard part was done. She loved it. It was used for an important ceremony. I’ve applied so much of this to my life..I guess my guidance counselor and Nike was onto something “Just Do It”

Your gift will make room for you..there is a market for that..get into an unfamiliar place within yourself and do the work required..watch the results..

Less is more…we get so caught up in the details and specifics sometimes and miss the point of why something was supposed to be done…FB_IMG_1435196439151

The difference between yesterday and today is the amount of information we can grasp at a rate/second and the amount of cameras that can open you up to criticism…this network is more dangerous than guns themselves…there is nothing new under the sun unless it’s man made..

People take life too seriously…we are supposed to but the reality is we were put here for a purpose..to serve the purpose..and affect the world..in a good way..unfortunately the balance of scales..in religion, doctrine, philosophy, etc. We will not have light without dark. The problem is where ever the scales tip…too much of anything can be chaos…share your gift…you don’t know what or who you are helping..as stated in the butterfly effect a.k.a. chaos theory…in short..what you do today..does affect your tomorrow..

Someone said….”I know how to swim….”.. my reply…”But what if you get a cramp?”, moral of the story…do what you do..but always prepare for the worst…

Confidence is sexy…no matter what the world is doing around you…OWN IT! “Those who can, do..those who can’t, teach.” Then there are those that do both. I know what I just said..don’t read too far into it..Live..Love..Prosper!

A Letter to My Dad

Most men assume that girls need their mother. To some degree that is true but, dad where are you?

I really can’t know what boys I should or shouldn’t like or date because you are not around. What forces you to not be in my life. I’m grateful for my step-dad but don’t you at least want to see me grow up. Don’t you at least want to attend at least one of my games? The name that so many have given you is “deadbeat”. A deadbeat is a name that so many give to their parents when they don’t take of their children but I refuse to call you a deadbeat I will just assume that you are dead. I have to assume you are dead because surely no real parent would want to miss the majority of their child’s life on purpose. No not one! I know in the past you have been able to blame my mom for not answering her telephone for you, but know that I’m older and I’m able to answer calls and make phone calls now.. Please tell me what’s your excuse now dad?

Maybe I should re-introduce myself to you. Hello, my name is Zee and I’m your only daughter and I would like to meet you. I would like for you to be in my life again as a dad. Not only would I like to meet you I would like to see you at my school for parent-teacher meetings, father-daughter dances and others events that clearly you need a dad to attend. It’s an awkward feeling when you feel that your real father is your step-dad and the step-dad is the real father.

I’m not writing this letter just for my dad I’m writing this letter to all of the dads that think it’s okay for you not to call or visit your child or children. If you chose not to spend time with us, you can’t get upset your daughter get pregnant at an early age, get in trouble and etc. because we are products of you.

At this time, I would like to thank my father, my step-dad Mr. Kincaid for not only being a great example of what a father and friend should be. I want to thank you for taking me to doctors appointments when needed. I want to thank you for losing sleep and coming to my school for my games, career day and father-daughter doughnut day. You came my life when I was one and you are ultimately the only dad I know. Thank you for being a dad!

What’s Trending with Women With Gifts: Pray With Us

Pray with us.. A lot of times when things get hard we tend to ask other people to pray for us which is perfectly fine, but it’s time that we stand up to our issues and pray over them. We, as believers have become too relaxed in asking and telling others to pray over our situations and we forget about the power that God has given us. Here’s two scriptures that proves that not only does God hear us when we pray he gives us the desires of our heart.

Psalm 37:4 Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Proverbs 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the  righteous.

In April 2014, myself and Women With Gifts started hosting our Monday Morning Conference Call prayer in order to reach other people, other women that needed prayer and was really going through something-like turmoil, trials, and tribulations. We pray EVERY SINGLE MONDAY rain, sleet or snow and even on holidays and we’ve done so for over a year.

We want to thank everyone in advance for joining us every Monday on our prayer conference call. This prayer is hosted by Women With Gifts and lead by our founder LaNette Kincaid but our prayer is NOT just for women. Our goal with this prayer is to heal our nation, build and encourage God people with emphasis on our women, and also take back the MONDAY that people have deemed to be the worst day of the week. Join our conference call prayer every Monday at 6am cst|7am est by calling 712-775-7400 access code 513886# ATTENTION: International callers are welcome to this call use this timezone converter in order to join our prayer at 6am cst.presenting (1)

Do You Too Need A Total Life Change – What’s Your Plan?

Part I

1 Corinthians 6:19 [NIV]

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

It has long been stated in numerous ways that man in his essence is a “spirit” who has a “soul” and lives in a “body.” This much we also know, according to John 4:24, God is a Spirit and like Father, like children! This is to say, in agreement with the teaching of Genesis 1:27, that God created man in his own image and likeness. So then, since we are spirit, what do we do with these bodies? These ‘earth suits?’ These ‘earthen vessels?’ These ‘clay containers?’

In the ‘body’ of Christ today we see a lot of emphasis placed on the spiritual realm and so we should. After all and again, spirit is who we are in the very core of our beings. Yes, we are undoubtedly spiritual beings and in this fact, we have an undeniable likeness with the God of creation who scooped up the earth’s dust and blew his breath into his created master piece to make us living souls.

So then, our God consciousness, an awareness of the fact that both God our creator and we his creation are spirit is something that should always be critically important. Next to that priority however, is the understanding of our consciousness with ourselves and the world around us. This is what takes place in the realm of our souls. PASTER MEL-1Our soul gives us our mental reasoning and our emotional powers. If the soul of a man was his glory then his spirit would be his crown. Lastly, as is commonly known, it is our bodies though, that gives us the ability of our five known senses of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. It is our physical bodies then [our outer shell, the temporary home we live in] that we are able to connect with the physical world around us to enjoy the everyday lives we live. Like it or not; this is the biblical order and arrangement of things concerning man in his place on earth.

Yet most Christians today, as critical as it is to place a significance on the lives we live in the spirit and even in the realm of the soul; we often do so at the exclusion or the expense of our bodies. In other words, it is far too common place for those who follow Christ, as I do, to treat our spirits or even souls as holy and sacred to God but then to still treat our bodies in ‘any kind of way!’

Tragically though, God’s word reminds us that our bodies are His temple and are to be treated as such; we literally exercise very little restraint if any in how we treat our bodies! Shout ‘

amen if you know I’m telling the truth c’mon now you don’t have to be a pastor, preacher or bible scholar to see that there is a great gap between how God tells us to take care of our bodies and how we really do. In fact, I’m sure that many of the same folk in ministry leadership that you know have even developed a habit of trashing their bodies with the idea that this is spiritually acceptable to God. I tell you “The devil is a lie!”

C’mon now! To do ministry, you need a body! It doesn’t matter how well you preach, teach or anything else; once you destroy your body; you can’t be there to help anyone else; game over! The problem is that we are not nearly as wholistic in our lifestyles as we ought to be. We tend to compartmentalize certain areas and master them while neglecting the others! Here is where the question must be raised; isn’t God concerned about your Total Life? Is he only concerned about a portion of it or all of it? Surely prayer is important and even essential but is prayer really the “total answer” if you are still going to trash your body with all kinds of drugs, poisons, toxins and unhealthy foods that do everything from increase the likelihood of you getting high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or a stroke? Aren’t we putting the cart before the horse in merely pretending to be spiritual about something we need to be a bit more self controlled and practical about according to the knowledge that God has told us to live by?

I don’t know about you but my eyes are now wide open to living with a respect not only for spiritual things or things that effect the deep places of my soul but I can also now see and respect the need for me to take the care of my body! Yes … I know I won’t live in this body forever but while I’m here; I need this thing to work right! I want it to get up when I say get up! I want it to go when I say go! I want my energy to last through the day without me feeling like I have crashed and burned out by 4 o’clock and truth be told, all of these desires will require some changes in my life. So, I’ve decided to be intentional about the changes I needed to make because no good thing will happen by accident.

Keep in mind, like some of you, I was already on track with my spiritual foundation in Christ. I have also learned through habit to be extremely passionate about implementing the soul care I need in my life. This is why I invest time with my mentors, coaches, family and close friends that help me to stay rooted and grounded.   In addition to that, I was so incredibly blessed just a few weeks ago implementing some more of my soul care strategy; spending a few days of quiet, solitude at Galveston beach again to help restore my soul from my often demanding schedule. It always does wonders for your soul; unplugging from my normal flow of life and sitting still and quiet for a few days is an exercise a few times each year! If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it to you.

Finally however, I have just one other recommendation. I’ve also started to make some a physical changes to allow for the Total Life Change that I had been taking for granted and missing out on for decades.

Now thank God, after making these simple changes, my energy is back up like it was more than 10 years ago! Not only that but by extra weight is steadily declining. I’m especially enjoying the detox that takes place every time I sip my cup of tea. Yes, praise God, I now have everything it takes to enjoy a Total Life Change. The truth is that we all need a Total Life Change in one way or another.

So, what are you doing for your spiritual growth and development? Is your foundation built on Christ? Surely, he is my chief corner stone. What strategies and plans do you have in place to impact the deep places in your soul? What is that you are doing regularly that restores your soul? Finally, are you taking good care of your temple or are you taking your body for granted; pushing it way past its set boundaries?

Remember, man is a spirit that has a soul but he lives in a body. It’s time to take care of ALL of YOU; not just a part. You need a TOTAL LIFE CHANGE.

Say What You Want to…..I’m Beautiful

Say what you want to, but I’m a girl with class, a little pizzazz. I’m a bounty of beauty, never once settling for less. I’m a woman with edge…….

Beauty was once something that I thought could only be attained with some rouge, eye shadow, and lipstick. What I can tell you is that beauty is more than skin deep. More than hair. Life can be difficult, but only when the cards that you are dealt are not played with stealth and delight. Enjoy the process, ride the wave.

I love the boldness of the young women, the fire and passion. Daring to be different, the colors, the styles. If there is one thing that I would like to see, balance. Balance is something that requires a connection. Alignment, an evenness, proportion. Not the balancing of beauty and brains. Balance of responsibility and power. Power of worth. The power of a beautiful intelligent woman. The strength of a woman that knows her worth without overbearing cynicism of independence. The beauty in knowing that interdependence is something that is needed, yearned for, a must. It’s the silent cry that men want, our children need, and the world is missing. It’s ok to be “every woman”, just don’t forget your purpose. The mental anguish and inner demons, the threshold that harbors the thoughts of the past, may be responsible for most lacking the intimacy and compassion for oneself, let alone anyone else. Say what you want to, but, it is the underlying current of hatred that is leading our nations. The desire to be perfect has become synonymous with power. The desire to be the best has been confused with being the best “you” that you can be. It’s the driving force that causes many to work endlessly to provide a materialistic future for generations, but forfeit the ability to nurture your own children. “That has what to do with beauty?”, you might ask. It has everything to do with it. In my opinion Too much of anything, excess, abundance is not always good. Too much of a good thing can cause a disconcerting effect, such as an overabundance of bad can cause disaster. Hence the term “too good to be true,”

Beauty by definition:

1: the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit :  loveliness……..

www.merriam-webster.com

Beauty by definition:

Beauty is a thing seldom seen. It is held by all within the soul it lies, waiting to come out to the surface, but it can only be found if someone is sharing your soul with you. Beauty is suppressed by the evils of the world. Only love can bring beauty out. Once seen, beauty never hides again. Not even hatred can deny beauty of it’s true design. Beauty, although possessed by all by few and fewer yet will ever see one of the most beautiful sights – the beauty held by you.
